International Rowers 2014

Dear friends of Cork Boat Club,

In general when we email bomb the masses it’s with requests for help and to the credit of each and every one of you we’re never left wanting.

This time we wanted to share some good news and let you see how your time and money has helped Cork Boat Club continue to lead the way in Irish Rowing.

The International Squad selections for 2014 have been announced and once again everybody at Cork Boat club can be very proud of the fact that we are the most represented club in the country at international level with 13 of our rowers having been selected to represent their country at the Home International and Coupe de la Jeunesse regattas. Full details are available here

Nine of our rowers (5 senior and 4 junior) have been selected for the Home International Regatta that takes place in Inniscarra on July 26th.

Four more of our Juniors have been selected to row at the European Junior regatta, Coupe de la Jeunesse, in Libourne France on August 1st.

This is a great achievement for Cork Boat Club and augurs well for our crews approaching the National Rowing Championships next month.

This is of course down the hard work and dedication of our rowers and their coaches but also in no small part to the volunteers who fundraise, sit on committees, work in the café and bar and attend all of our events.

Thanks to each of you for your continued support and a huge congratulations to all of our rowers who were selected.

Make sure you check out the full details HERE

Best Regards,

John McDonagh

Boat Fund

Dear Friend of Cork Boat Club,

Our Club has undergone many positive changes in recent times. We have grown our membership to record levels especially with so many new younger members, our building and grounds have been greatly improved and a new sense of community has emerged with parents getting heavily involved in helping the club with our Café and other projects. We should all be proud that we are truly a club that is going places thanks to so many people getting involved and the great Boat Club spirit we witness every day.

As we continue to aim for new heights as a Club, the need for new sources of funding has become very clear. We have made solid progress in getting new sponsorship from local companies and getting grant aid from some sources, and members continue to give huge support to our many one-off fundraising initiatives such as our Erg Marathon and our recent Defibrillator fundraiser. However a Boat Club of our size and infrastructure requires significant funding to maintain a reasonable quality of boats, buildings and services and we often find ourselves making difficult decisions over spending priorities and having to postpone essential projects due to lack of funds.

To try to improve our ability to specifically purchase boats and boating equipment, we are launching a New Cork Boat Club Boat Fund in April 2014. This will be managed by Cork Boat Club Committee on behalf of the members and will give us much needed monthly cash-flow to buy boats, spare parts etc on an ongoing basis.

We know that times are very tough for everyone, and not everyone will be able to support this plan, but we hope that as many of you as possible including our Boat Club diaspora, will find it possible to support this drive. Our ask is that parents, members and former members who feel they can support the new boat fund will sign up as soon as possible.

We have pitched the monthly contribution at €15 but any monthly amount would be fantastic. To give you a sense of how this could make a difference to your Club – if we are lucky enough to get 30 members / parents to contribute, it will generate €450 per month or €5400 per year – that is a HUGE amount of new funding for the club, which would make an immense difference to everyone.

Please use the attached standing order form which has all relevant details and you can either return it to me (Emmet Walsh, President Cork Boat Club, 14 Carmen Lawn, Rochestown, Cork) or return it yourself to your own bank. Please feel to call me directly on 086-3965670 with any queries.

You will find the Standing Order form here

Thank you for your consideration,
Kind Regards
Emmett Walsh
Club President.

ERGATHON – SATURDAY 1ST MARCH 2014

Sanita Puspure - Olympian

ERGATHON – SATURDAY 1ST MARCH 2014

Cork Boat Club will host its first Ergathon in the club on 1st March starting at 12:00 noon.  Like a sponsored walk where contributors sponsor walkers for a certain distance walked, an ergathon contributor sponsors the amount of metres an athlete will row on a land based rowing machine.

Our goal is to raise over €5,000 with this event for rowing equipment.  We are asking all members to seek sponsorship to support their rowing efforts in the Ergathon.

Irish Olympic Rower, Sanita Puspure, will be the first rower.  During the Ergathon, members will attempt to row the distance from Cork to Dublin, a total of 253,000 metres. Come to the Ergathon and cheer on the athletes.
