Annual Cork Boat Club Race Night – Friday 5th April 2013

NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE: Please note that the venue of our annual club Race Night has changed to Blackrock Hurling Club on Friday 5th April.

The annual Cork Boat Club Race Night will now take place on Friday April 5th 2013 in Blackrock Hurling Club. . This is one of our larger Fundraising Events and we depend on companies like yours for sponsorship.

Last year, funds from the Race night and various other fund raising activities went towards purchasing the following essential equipment:

· Racing Four for Junior rowers €6000

· Gym Equipment €2000

· Boat House for sculls €5000

Great strides were made in renovations to the Club by club members & parents, which include renovations to upstairs male & female toilets & showers, refurbishing fire exit and major work to the club car park.

We cater for 200 rowers from Junior 14 level right up to Seniors Male & Female. All levels are catered for and we help instill a love of exercise, teamwork and achievement in all our rowers.

Highlights of 2012 Season:

4 Junior Women represented Ireland at junior 18 level.

2 Women represented Ireland at Senior Level.

Launching the New Boat Fund

Dear Friend of Cork Boat Club,

Our Club has undergone many positive changes in recent times. We have grown our membership to record levels especially with so many new younger members, our building and grounds have been greatly improved and a new sense of community has emerged with parents getting heavily involved in helping the club with our Café and other projects. We should all be proud that we are truly a club that is going places thanks to so many people getting involved and the great Boat Club spirit we witness every day.

As we continue to aim for new heights as a Club, the need for new sources of funding has become very clear. We have made solid progress in getting new sponsorship from local companies and getting grant aid from some sources, and members continue to give huge support to our many one-off fundraising initiatives such as our annual Race Night and our recent Defibrillator fundraiser. However a Boat Club of our size and infrastructure requires significant funding to maintain a reasonable quality of boats, buildings and services and we often find ourselves making difficult decisions over spending priorities and having to postpone essential projects due to lack of funds.

To try to improve our ability to specifically purchase boats and boating equipment, we are launching a New Cork Boat Club Boat Fund in February. This will be managed by Cork Boat Club Committee on behalf of the members and will give us much needed monthly cash-flow to buy boats, spare parts etc on an ongoing basis.

We know that times are very tough for everyone, and not everyone will be able to support this plan, but we hope that as many of you as possible including our Boat Club diaspora, will find it possible to support this drive. Our ask is that parents, members and former members who feel they can support the new boat fund will sign up as soon as possible.

We have pitched the monthly contribution at €15 but any monthly amount would be fantastic. To give you a sense of how this could make a difference to your Club – if we are lucky enough to get 30 members / parents to contribute, it will generate €450 per month or €5400 per year – that is a HUGE amount of new funding for the club, which would make an immense difference to everyone.

We are targeting February 18th as the first withdrawal date but any date of your choosing is not an issue. If you feel you can sign up, the club and future generations of Cork Boat Club would be most grateful. It will genuinely give us a new platform to grow as a Club.

Please use the attached standing order form which has all relevant details and you can either return it to me (Emmet Walsh, President Cork Boat Club, 14 Carmen Lawn, Rochestown, Cork) or return it yourself to your own bank. Please feel to call me directly on 086-3965670 with any queries.

You will find the Standing Order form here

Thank you for your consideration and as always, Go Boat Club!

Regards

Ergathon Details – Saturday September 15th from 11AM

Hi Everyone
Just another reminder of the Open day/Ergathon for all members (past, present, new) this Saturday starting at 11am in the Club. We are looking for as full a turn out as we can and we expect to mark the occasion with a group photo as we have done in the past. The Cafe will be open throughout. Niall Duncan will be running the Ergathon for all interested parties and he tells me the ground rules are

All teams must carry out some running on the Marina collectively.

J18’s and above Club to Shandon and back
J16’s Club to Lee RC and back
J15’s Club to Shanty and back
J14’s Club to railings and back
Each team will have one ergometer only so one at a time

As many team members as the team chooses can run simultaneously.

Bag Packing Fund Raiser – Fri Aug 24th & Sat Aug 25th

Hi All,

Our allocated bag packing slot at Dunnes Stores in Douglas Court is coming up shortly.I would be grateful if you could let all rowers/coaches/parents know about it and request their assistance with this event. In the past bag packing has been a great fundraiser so its worth putting in the effort!!

Dates & times are as follows:

Friday 24th August 6.00-9.00pm

Saturday 25th August 10.00am-4.00pm

I would suggest that the times are broken up as follows – we should aim to have 6 rowers minimum per slot (cover as many tils as possible) and one adult to supervise each session.

Friday 6-9pm

Saturday 10-12

Saturday 12-2

Saturday 2-4pm

Volunteers names can be sent to me (karendunnemccarthy@me.com) upto 13th August or to Mary Murphy (mmurphy@imagine.ie) after that date.

Thanks

Karen McCarthy

Club Get-Together – Sunday May 27th (After Metro Regatta)

Hi All,

On Sunday morning next the level of activity at the club will be
exceptionally high with rowers, coaches, boats and trailers just back from
Metro regatta.

The Committee wishes to welcome as many as possible of our members past and
present and friends to gather at the Club between 11 am and 1.30 pm to enjoy
the buzz, see the improvements in the clubhouse and view the growing gallery
of photographs, old and new, which are now back on the walls. It will also
be a chance for some to renew acquaintances.

We hope that Paul Duggan, probably our most senior member, will be there and
the intention is to take a GROUP PHOTOGRAPH of every one on the green now
that the balcony is accessible again!
